expanding existing system

I have a regular landscape maint customer that wants me to increase the square footage her system currently irrigates.


After some initial research, it dosent seem to be overwhelming.
However, I'm only in the begining stages of my "Feasibility Study", and thought I'd run it by the pros...

It's a skinny rectangle 80' x 8' and I'm hoping that I can just extend the closest existing zone to cover this area.
(How can I know for sure?)

BTW, the skinny rectangle is across a 25' wide paved street.
I will have to go under.
(Hammer drill? Water jet? Any suggestions?)

How many heads are running on the "closest" zone?
what are they, what type and what arc?
What is your water source size?
How much bigger are you making it?
How big is timer and how far from control valves if you have to add one?
The more info the better.

Directional boring is the way to get under the hardscape. Depends on your area and soil type though?

I'll be working off from 1" PVC

How much bigger are you making it?

640 sq ft (80' x 8' rectangle). Existing zone is less than 700 sq ft from my drawing (explained later)

How big is timer and how far from control valves if you have to add one?

Timer is Rain Bird ESP-6

Control valves are approx 95 ft away. I'm estimating this distance from an old measured drawing I made and am only fairly confident about it. However, I can take my measuring wheel back out there, if need be.

A couple of points:

You would irrigate the 8x80 area with sprays but you mentioned the closest zone is rotors...you don't want to mix the two on the same zone, much different run times.

You need to find a zone that is already using sprays and has sufficient capacity left to handle the 8x80 area. (which sounds like close to one zone by itself to be honest). You need to find the water supply capacity in gallons/minute, design the 8x80 area and compute its required GPM and then either add a new zone or find another spray zone that has sufficient 'leftover' GPM to cover the new heads.

Not rocket science, but not 'just add heads' either.

Ugh... I was in denial. I'll be needing a new zone.
