Good O Fertilizer

Can anyone say that the more you spend on fert the better it is? I've used the cheap stuff to the high end crap and really don't see any difference. I want to buy product for the spring that's most beneficial for my clients without wasting their money and making me look like I know what the hell I'm doin. All are irrigated regularly but the results are lacking. Gone through high dollar Fertilome, Scotts and the like down to K-Grow. Someone said that Scotts puts their products under several different labels. Any truth to that?
