Grasshopper hydraulic oil

Any of you Grasshopper owners have any suggestions for an alternative hydraulic oil for hydrostatic transmission(other than what Grasshopper sells for 55.00 a gal!!!) I have been told that MobilDTE26 is just ordinary hyd oil. What are some of you guys using. thanks a lot.

I posted a thread on this a while back. My G.H. dealer and my local oil distributor have said the following oils can be used in place of the G.H. hydro. oil. Any oil labeled : DTE 26
AW ISO 68
ISO 68
AW68
Hope this gives you some locally available options.

grasshopper oil info

I recentley talked with my rep in north texas about this very subject. He said the dte 26 had been replaced by dte 18m, but he said this oil was only to be used on the 700 series gemni trans. He told me it could not be used on the g2 trans (pumps & wheel motors) like on my 725g2. He said mobile 15w50 was the closest thing to what is being used in those units, but suggested that I only use grasshopper fluid during warranty because the fluids were not the exactly the same. I was also told that the grasshopper fluid has several more additives in their than the 15w50. Hope I could help with this info.

Bill,
Who did you talk to here in N. Texas. I would like to talk to him also. I have been getting my info on replacement oils from James, the owner of Richardson Saw, up on Central Expressway. He used to be a factory rep. for Grasshopper before he took over Richardson Saw.
