So what wood do you use for decks that endure?

Decks rot; I've tried fir p.t. joists with flashing and clear western cedar decking and still have had problems, though the better the material and up-keep, the longer it will last. Decks are like sprinklers, they need service.

Construction materials shouldn't need service. They should endure.

Decks have a exemption. The only way REALLY to do a deck is a polymer coating (with non-skid walnut shells added) over marine-grade plywood, using stainless nails or screws.

Decks need maintenance just like the rest of the home.

I install redwood, cedar, and of course trex type products. Some of the older trex rots, but the newer stuff is supposed to hold up better.
