Plants for the sea shore

Hi everyone!
I am doing a landscape design for a lot in the Outer Banks, NC. I could use some ideas on what kind of material will do well there. The lot is a new house, about 1 mile from the beach. The soil is very sandy, but the lot is actually on wetlands. Fairly heavily wooded around the perimeter, but the contractor cleared ALL of the big trees out around the house. The majority of the yard can have a kind of casual look, one section that is fenced in and protected will be more formal. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I am not all that familiar with plants for that kind of soil. Thanks everyone!

Ck with your local county ag agent for that county. They should be able to help with a list of plants. Also might want to ck the Horti Dept at the state university.
