I started my career in the golf course business. Pay depends on what job you do. Superintendent, Asst. Super., Chemical/Fertilize Tech., Irrigation Tech, Foreman, Crew Member. All of these positions require different levels of experience and education and therefore are compensated differently. What part of the golf course are you interested in?

It might be very informative for you depending on the type of people that work there. If they are knowledgeable and understanding, you could learn irrigation inside and out, making applications and knowing why you are making them, and get some real leadership experience running a crew.
Or you might end up mowing greens, doing bunkers or weedwacking and not learn a damn thing.

Laborers get 9-10 an hour usually, Irrigation and Spray Techs are usually 13-14hr or salaried 25-35 depending on location Assistants get 30-50 and superintendents can get anywhere from 60 up with most getting 80 or higher, along with a truck and free gas. Downside is alot of hours for poor pay when you realize how many hours you put in during the summer when you're on a salary, and the fact you can never work hard to get ahead and take a day off, because no matter how much you get done the day before, greens still need to be mowed, bunkers raked, and of course water.

hourly rate is about 8-10/hour
For a laborer, you will mow, weed wack, rake bunkers, and any other grunt work. |
