gas problem

ive got a toro walk-behind and every now and then i get these huge whiffs of gas when mowing, and i don't see a leak anywhere. and the fuel filter is not filling up. i have to squeeze the gas line to get some in there. do i need to replace the lines?? what's happening? thanks
