Started out plowing and quickly figured out I could make same amount of money in summer mowing lawns. Took some of the plowing cash and bough a used 48" Lesco, Stihl trimmer and echo backpack. I loaded mower into truck until 2nd year when I got more accounts and loading it that way was a PIA. Did landscaping on the side for 12 years then went full time. Now fighting the hacks/lowballers like the rest of you.

I started push mowing yards when I was younger than ten years old in my neighborhood. I started my real business ten years ago. I bought about 30 yards from a co worker. he wanted to dump some yards and this was my opportunity to start my business. Since it was gonna be a done deal, I went out and bought everything new.. Trailer, Exmark TT 60 23 HP, Shindaiwa 260, a sthil BG 50 handheld blower. And thats about it.
Nowadays, I have much much more equip. But still have the same walk behind as a back up mower.

great business. But this isnt for everyone.

i was a marine mechanic for 14 years and have dabbled in lawncare all of my life. i decided to go to work for a large landscape company to learn the ropes last year. i went from a laborer to a foreman in 30 days. i have had a 36 toro, murayama edger, and a redmax blower for a long time. i just purchased an M242 shindaiwa w/trimmer and shears to get me by until i get a few more accounts. i am working on a church that i am cutting a deal with so i can showcase my work. most of all trusting GOD in this, the company i work for is hard to figure out sometimes ( but I have their #1 account !???!!), so I hope to be on my own soon if GOD blesses my wife with a new job she is going after..i am going to concentrate on two things: quality and superior customer service! I do this for one reason: I love to make lawns beautiful!

worked a full time job, and a part time job. leaving me sat and sunday 8 am- 4:30 pm to do any work i could find. started with 3 loyal costomers for a year useing a push mower and thier weed eater and a broom. then hung up signs all over bought a encore 34 zero turn (cash) a echo 755 (cash) 7x12 trailer credit card. now have 15 costomers and work full time. the key for me has always been to keep over head down. just trded the encor for a ferris 44" ztr swaped the echo 755 for a stihl br600. and have now got a echo pas 265 with articulating hedge trimmer, edger, brush cutter, line trimmer.. i am starting to get a ton of quality equipment. but i also have almost no over head. ive used my full time job to pay for all the stuff, and the money i make from my jobs is saved. im gonna do this till i have enough customers to quit my day job.

little side note. been getting a ton of jobs this year so far. had to cut down to 4 days at my other job to keep up... any new cleanup or mulch is looking at a two week wait and growing. im so excited
