Dethatch Annually for Spring Clean Up?

I de-thatch my lawn every spring!
I offer to my customers, and tell them the benifits, but not alot do it. Great extra money for me on the ones that do have me d-thatch.

i do thatch raking with all spring clean ups. there is a differance in dethatch and thatch rake thus the range of answers you are not using a powered vertical rake right just a spring thatch rake right.

Most lawns (at least in my region with my type of turf) do not need dethatching. It is expensive for the homeowner and time consuming for the contractor. Annual aeration should be enough for most lawns. If you can't decide if a lawn has too much thatch, you are in no place to recommend dethatching. We do it as part of the spring cleanup because of matted leaves in the lawn.
