Get the 550 if you think you'll need it, get a 450 otherwise. I've spoken to too many people that say they overload their 1-ton dump all the time.

I overload the 350 on a daily basis, get a 450 if you go 550 an hook up a trailer you have to get a class B.

if the vehicle is registered as under 26,001 in mass then even if your over 26,001 pounds then you do not need a CDL this is striaght from a cops mouth no joke ive done it before with a gmc 7500

So you just get a fine? Makes sense if you think about it. If he gets a 17,500# F550 then tows 10k#, he'll need the CDL since thats over the 26k combined limit.
