startup business

my brother (who will graduate with a degree in plant and soil science w/ a minor in hort. and bus.) and i plan to start a lawncare business in the spring in northern kentucky. with his experience we have the grass and hort. background, but need help with the lawncare business side of things. need to find out the best way to get accounts, bid, etc. any info. you could share would be greatly appreciated.

how soon should we begin trying to get jobs for the spring? i'm guessing asap, but for small commercial accounts, i.e. banks etc. when should we try and bid these jobs
