Hi Folks. New guy here. Name is Lynn
I too am having starter problems with a JD LX176; for the last 2 or 3 years actually.
Often when I try to start it I get that click. Most of the time the starter will engage the first time, but after the engine doesn't start and I release the key to try again that's when it just clicks.
Usually after several tries with the key it will activate the starter. But today, no such luck, even after trying til I was blue in the face. All I got was a blue face.
I saw the comment by Brad, regarding a Starter Assist Relay ...where is that? Is that near the starter or solenoid, or is it up behind the console near the switch?

Another question: Are these starters rebuildable, by such as a local auto electric company that rebuilds car starters, alternators, etc.

Thanks for any assistance or suggestions.

Lynn--you will find the info regarding the starter assist relay in the email I sent you. Most tractors do not have this unit installed. You can make and install the relay with about $5-10 in parts or for free with a well stock parts bin.

Anyone else interested, either e-maiil or PM me for the info.
