I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I didn't find any polls on advertisement using the search feature.

What is the best method of advertisement? I am a high school student working with my brother. We have been mowing apprx. 5-7 lawns and I want to get some more for this summer.

Which method would you use: Newspaper ad, yellow pages, flyer, brocure, door hanger, signs on truck, or a different method? I want to put an add in the paper and do some flyers in late february. What's your opinion?

Thanks a lot,
Ryan

We get more jobs from flyers than any other source. But we also put out several thousand a year.

The next best thing is truck signs. They are a must have. The bigger the better.

Yellow pages in my opinion are an all or nothing arrangement. Either you go all out with a LARGE ad or you will be looked over. In my experience the Yellow Pages generates a lot of "non-qualified" leads. We just made the decision to go with a simple "courtesy" listing. Decision was made upon analyzing the customer base and finding that only 3 out of all of them were a result of the yellow pages.

You left out referrals...They normally are a SLAM DUNK!

I'd have to agree with the Nebraskan Corn Chucker (is that the name of your little team over there?)

Yellow pages are only very effective if you are one of the largest ads, preferably the largest. Been there, did that. And got about the same results too. We got a decent amount of calls during the spring and summer but like the Corn Chucker said, we didn't get many qualified leads from the calls. So we too are going back to a courtesy listing. The worst thing about yellow pages is that they keep charging you even during the fall and winter, even though you get like ZERO calls from the ad. That kinda hurts [ouch!]
