company names

Was just wondering what steps to take for a company name or logo so that no one else has or can use it. Would be a real bummer after making cards and signs plus putting on the truck for someone to start useing the name also.

Been there. It happened to me a couple of years ago. You can do a name search within the state you work and reside in to see if anyone else is using a particular name.

Check with the county for registrations of Sole Proprietorships.

Check with State for Corporations.

Logo is something different: That would need to be on file with the Patent and Trademark Office in Washington in order to be protected.

I just simply use my legal name as my business name. Chances of someone else in my area have the same name, I would think would be very slim to none. I aquire business on my reputation not my name anyway. Just do good quality work at a fair price and the work will come.
