Brown area under trees at drip line

I have brown thinnig grass under my trees, at the drip line, what's happening? It's not dry we have had plenty of rain. What can I do ?

Remove the grass, put in mulch (as far as the branches go out)... the trees will love you for it.

sometime aphids will do that is they are attacking the tree but too hard to give you an answer without pics
