Nut'n to do with Lawncare, but good read'n

You have to read this....it is great!

OLD VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and complains
about the lack of grass to play in all summer long. Come winter,
the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter and barely survives
the Winter.

MORAL OF THE STORY: You are responsible for your lot in life!

-----------------------------------------

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building
his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and complains
about the lack of grass to play in all summer long. Come winter,
the ant is warm and well fed.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well
fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the
shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his
comfortable home with a table filled with food. America
is stunned by the sharp contrast.

Nancy Pelosi & Barack Obama exclaim in an interview with Larry
King that the ant has taken advantage of the grasshopper, and
that half of the ant's food should be given to the grasshopper.

MSNBC blames the plight of the grasshopper on George Bush and all
Republicans everywhere.

Fox News says the grasshopper got what he deserved.

The grasshopper is given half of the ant's food and the ant is
forced to build the grasshopper a shelter.

The grasshopper soon demands more food and warm clothing as well.

The grasshopper's shelter falls into disrepair due to neglect and
he demands the shelter be fixed. The ant is forced to do so.

HBO does a documentary on the grasshopper's shabby conditions,
and Paramount releases a movie called "Pesticide" starring
Tim Robbins.

The Grammy award for best song is awarded to "America's Shame",
a song about the injustice done to grasshoppers. The award
is presented by Leonardo DiCaprio, on a show hosted by Ellen
Degeneres and Rachel Maddow.

The grasshopper fathers 8 children with 8 different females and
the ant is forced to give more food to the grasshopper for
the children.

Eventually the grasshopper leaves. The ant is forced to
support the grasshopper's children, and the abandoned shelter
is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once
peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008!!

Good analogy! Too bad it's true It's hard to imagine hard working Americans voting for policies like that-but they do!

It's called "cost-shifting". We have a broken system of government which penalizes those who work hard, and it rewards those who do not. Success should be rewarded.......NOT penalized! One thing that gets my goat is giving tax credits to those who have kids......another example of ME having to pay for 'others' CHOSEN expenses/responsibilities. Is that f&%ked up or what?

Hard-working Americans are taxed to death. I realize many Americans truly need our help (God bless them cuz it ain't their fault), but the "knuckle-draggers have no excuse. Problem is, "You can't get blood out of a turnip", so the only way BIG government can pay for all their "programs", is to go after guys like you & me. SAD. (and I don't mean St Augustine disease).

I don't see an end to this either. Heck - It wasn't until 1985 that we had to charge tax for lawn spraying. Now snow removal is the only thing we don't have to tax.

***I went to Wal-Mart this afternoon during my route to buy something (tequila) , and most customers in there were either retired folks, obese people, or fat women with several kids. The handicap parking spaces were all taken up. Now I know where I'll be when I retire or gain 200 pounds.

Excellent story Rodney. Penalizing hard work and success will lead to less of both.

Fine points all.

I have no problem with a social safety net, in fact, I think decent people insist on it.

I do have a big problem with a social safety hammock.
