ID of Grassy Weed

Trying to ID a grassy weed that recently popped up in fescue lawn. Sorry no pic. Sandy soil, south-central KS. At first glance it appears to be some sort of fescue that tends to clump. However, the fescue mix throughout their lawn does not exhibit this one trait. When mowed, this grass gets "hairy" wisps on the top 1/2 inch. Seed head is almost wheat like in appearance but much smaller. Any ideas?
