cut the bottom out of a coffee and sink it slightly below ground level (an inch will do). mix up a pail with an ounce or two of dish soap and pour the solution into the exposed portion of the can. Top up as required without over filling. Wait 5 minutes and see if any lil critters float to the surface.
This will answer your question on whether you have chinch bugs or any other surface insects. |

i still don't think its chinch bugs but like roy said take a coffee can and stick in the ground close to the affected area and see if anything floats up...normally when you have chinch bugs you will see a yellowing of the grass blade take a good look and see if you see any yellowing most of the time it will be up one side of the blade but sometimes the whole blade will be yellow just by looking at pics we are guessing it would be better if somebody could go to it and see it in person..here are some links to try and help you........
http://floridaturf.com/chinch/index.html http://insects.tamu.edu/extension/bulletins/L-1766.html you see how in the 2nd link the pic on there the grass has a yellow tint to it? you will have to make up your mind on what you have.....from your other post it needs some fertilizer..... |

Didn't we already have this thread? I was the one that said possibly chinch bugs of webworms. I can tell you that judging by one of the the pics in the first thread, and the 4th pic in this thread (may be the same), webworm is more probable. The blade looks like it is gnawed down more. With chinch bugs, they don't actually chomp down and mat the plant down....it is just tore up at the bottom, and dies as a whole blade. As I said before, though...I am not too convinced of any type of fungus from what I see. There is just no surrounding evidence.
