350 or 351 and questions on 6 cylinders?

When I buy a new truck hopefully soon. I want a 3/4 ton with either a 350 or 351 what engine has the best pulling power. The Chevy 350 will be the vortec. Another question I have a 1991 GMC 4.3 litre. I think it was in 1995 when they made it with vortec giving it an extra (30) horsepower I think. For anyone that has driven and pulled with both 4.3 and 4.3 with vortec is there a big difference When pulling a trailer? Does the Fords 4.9 inline 6 have better pulling power than the 4.3 vortec?

The 350 is a GM motor

The 351 is a Ford motor.

I personally like the 351 because I'm familiar with the motor and I've had very good luck with all my fords.
I know the 350 chevy is also a good motor as well.

I can't comment on which one tows better, because I've never driven a 350, but IMO As long as the truck hasn't been abused, I don't think you can go wrong.

The Ford 4.9 "big six" is very capable of towing heavy loads. It has the reputaion of being bulletproof, with lots of torque. Its not uncommon for one to last 3 to 400,000 miles before needing a rebuild. Its one of fords most reliable motors. The 4.9 is not made to go fast....its made to tow. You're not going to win many races with a 4.9, but its a very good motor that will humble the 4.3 in towing.

None of the engines you have mentioned are made anymore except foor the 4.3 liter. If i wanted a six banger i would prefer a ford 300. Lots of power for a 6 and bulletproof! A 4.3 is ok but it needs a few mods to really run well but it doesnt have the cubes to really tow any weight. A chevy 350 is good for work and you can do a few mods to it and get really good gas mpg. Every 351 i ever had was a gas hog. I prefer a 3/4 or a 1 ton truck for work. Dont short yourself with a 1/2 ton. Consider a diesel? Any dodge diesel will have a turbo and plenty of power. An older ford is good but anything older than a 94 will not have a turbo.

I have 2 fords with the 300 6. One is a 91 fuel injected with 201,000.........very reliable and no major problems except clutch. The best part is that it leaks absolutely no oil on my driveway. Its rated at 150hp and around 275lb-ft (at around 2000 rpm). It pulls my trailer with no problem and willl easily do 85 on the highway. If your looking for something older, ford used them up to 96.
