Allen block wall question

Hey guys have a few questions what are all you guys using for a base when you do allen block walls are you using 3/4 clean gravel? also when back filling in the block are you using recycled stone or 3/4 clean?

I build on 57's and backfill with them also. Any open core block should be filled with a drain stone.

You can build on #57. You can also build on ABC/Crusher run. The only difference is with ABC/crusher run there is no drain pipe in the base itself.

Okey, I mainly use 57's which is around a 3/4 stone for my base. I have at times used crusher run all depending on situation. I have walls 10 years old and no problem. It is even accepted by NCMA standards. In my area we have a lot of solid rock and hard shale giving a strong base so we just add 8" of 57's level and build. Its not going any where, if we hit clay and go deep for soild ground than we will go with crusher run, compacted in neeeded lifts. Then i will still and a small amount of 57's to level and than build. And yes all 57's pipe goes on bottom , crusher run pipe goes on top.

i would recommend using crushed stone. Crushed stone means either 34- or 34clear. If you use clear it may require less in delivery fees. Also less trips if you have to haul the rock back off site.

It is less because then you only have 1 type of rock on site. Not 2 different types.

I believe in that theroy also, and its not like your cutting corners either to save a buck. Very good point to bring out here.
