What kind of tree is THIS?
I took this picture last fall and have been looking to identify this tree ever since. It's obviously some sort of maple. But I've never seen one with purple leaves before. Anyone know what this is?
Someone said it was Acer palmatum 'plum passion'. I dunno. Anyone???

Could it be a Amur(SP) Maple? Never seen one that purple..could the color be off in the photo?

I'm reading the post as the pictures is loading, and I'm thinking "c'mon Jim, a Crimson King Norway Maple, or one of the improved cultivars."
Then I saw the pic. I've never seen anything with foliage as bright as that. Looks like the tree in 'What Dreams May Come.' Are you sure you didn't tinker with the color levels on that pic before you posted it? |

By it's location it looks like a volunteer and not a planned addition to the landscape. Boy, if I were any good at propagating through cuttings, I'd snarf a few small branches and play Dr. Frankenstein.

I think diginahole is on the right track but I am not sure it is a bloodgood. Jim do you have any pictures that a closeup of the foliage? This one would be worth propagating

Hey you, get out of that Jello tree.
Sunsets play funny tricks with photograpy. |
