What about chain link on floor?
I've never tried it but I heard a guy saying that he had unloaded leaves from a trailer by; first, laying down a length of chain link fence wire (6 FT I think) from the front to the back of floor of trailer and then loading the trailer with the leaves and then pulling the chain link wire off of the trailer with ropes, straps or chains (whatever you have or can get). He said the leaves would slide off with the chain link. I haven't tried it myself but will probabl;y try that or the Pallet/plywood and strap method this year.
Have any of you tried the chain link fence method? |

I know your using a mesh tarp, but beware of leaf debis blowing back on top of debris vac. And which way is the motor exhaust blowing. If it is towards the wood it could be a fire hazard. Believe me I speak from experience. Thank goodness I had a fire extinguisher with me. A simple sheet metal cover on top of the motor and between the exhaust and wood side wall could be the trick between success and failure. good luck, Marc

Mine was only a couple inches from the muffler. I had made a simple baffle to try to direct the exhaust away. But close to all that I had cut a small hole through the wood to help hang the vac on the back of my dump truck. Enough for the hot exhaust to get to the leaves on the other side. Even after we had used the extinguisher the leaves in the box were still smoldering. Not want to drive down the road and have the wind fire it back up before I could get somewhere to unload. I opted to climb in and shovel that spot out by hand. Lesson learned.
After that I made a big open alcove in the side of the leaf box for lots of room for the exhaust to disperse. Marc

yes this is an old thread. Just wanted to update that I bought a 6x12 Carry On Dump this spring and will be converting it into my leaf trailer. I plan to use 6 2x8's on each side to make my walls and hang the loader on the back gate of the dump.
