Thanks... actually trying to dig up a couple more eggs as we speak.

One advantage I have is that I don't have to worry about the extras... granted there won't be any up-sells on this one, but it's basically a mow, trim, blow and go. Thier maintenance staff takes care of all the other stuff.

I was reading another thread last night about rates per hour, and I found it very interesting the wide range that I saw. I'm trying to price everything at 45-60/hr, which seems about the average around here.

I have a friend, another LCO that does a larger complex than my previous example. All he does is the mow, trim, blow, and he is very successfull with it. He also subs out the chemicals. Seems to work real well for him. Hopefully it will for you also. Best of Luck!

However the HOA board had two or three folks on it that figured they could whine and gripe and make us do even more. They would nitpick and gripe about anything because that is the kind of people that they have chosen to be in life.
Amen to that.

Wow I read about half the post before I realized I have to say something. Yes you landed a big one. Yes you under bid. The problem I see is you getting frustrated and not doings a good job. Trust me about 3 months in you are going to think this is unfair.

Here are the things I would do. I would tell them that to do there hedges its going to be 20K so that you can make up for lost money. NO JK

Your Zero turn is going to get a work out. Every time I have run my Z turn for hours upon hours it has always had a problem the next day. Trust me this is the time to pick up two helpers at $10 an hour.

I have looked at this thread for a long time and thought about it quite a bit. I can come up with only one logical solution to your problems. With a 60" JD ZTR, have an OCDC mounted on it for your FS 90R, along with some extra line and fuel. Be able to get all that you can with the ZTR and all that you can with the trimmer, and thus eliminate the need for a 21". Practice mowing small and tight areas with a trimmer, it works with practice. Also, while you are doing this all day on your big comfortable machine, you need to have someone running that BR600 for all of the cleanup. The only reasonable thing to do is hire a $9 per hour college guy who is strong and can handle the backpack for hours at a time. Teach him to do a good job and get everything cleaned off. With him and you combined you might not make out so bad after all.

Well, I may have lucked out more than I realize... my dad just got offered a retirement package from his job... he's only about 2-3 years away anyhow, but rather than lay him off, they offered to let him out early. Most likely he'll take it, and I should be able to convince him to come help me a couple days a week. He'll be 60 next year, but is in pretty good shape. He won't be able to keep up with me, but I know that he'll show up when needed, and do a decent job while he's there. Win-win situation for both of us... he picks up some spending money, I get my helper... we'll see...

No, my dad is being forced to retire from his job, and I may be able to offer him a part time job to help him out.

pull that kangaroo out of your a$$ and maybe you won't be so cranky.
