"Service Magic"

I know there have been previous postings about this. I signed up with them today to give it a try. Has or is anyone still using them and what are your thoughts. I know it has its pros and cons. Just wanted some insight from current or past users. Each year I try to do something new with my marketing. Thanks to all..........

Here's a link to an older post of mine stating why you shouldn't use Service Magic: http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.p...86&post2229386

After you've read that. What I am going to say might make more sense.

This all assumes that they are still charging $12 per LEAD (remember, a lead doesn't guarantee a customer as the lead could choose a differenct LCO).

I searched for "lawn service in tupelo, ms" (see http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=lawn+...fp=Rhq7p-mUk-o for results) and guess who shows up in the 1-3 spot? Service magic. They probably pay around $1.50 - $2.00 per click for that spot through Google Adwords.

What does this mean for you? You could be getting leads for $1.50 - $2.00 via Google Adwords with a simple informative website rather than paying them $10 - $12 per lead.

Comparison
Lets say for every 5 leads you get, 1 becomes a customer.

Service Magic = ~10 leads = 2 Customers
Do Adwords Yourself = ~50 leads = 10 Customers

Hopefully that speaks for itself. If you have any questions about Adwords or marketing online, just let me know. I'll do my best to help you out.

Also, get any free online advertising you can get.

http://northmiss.craigslist.org/

You're in a rural part of the country and that particular area doesn't have a lot of posts on Craigslist. However, posting an ad about your services every week or so couldn't hurt.

EDIT: Also. Ad your business name and telephone number to Google's Business Listings. It only takes a few minutes and can get you front page exposure on google when someone is searching for lawn service in your area.

Yeah. I try to let people know that there are alternatives. The internet is still kinda new for the lawn industry.

Check it out and give it a try. Adwords usually works better in larger cities and towns. Results vary from area to area.

But... If Service Magic is saying they can generate customers then there is no reason you couldn't do it yourself on Adwords. After all, they use it.

I hate to say it but in this day and age I'm not paying for "leads," and I don't care how pre-qualified they are.

Not trying to scare anyone but I can create a company like that, too...
Then I just get a group of people to call you!

If it's even a legitimate lead...

How do I know the leads haven't received some incentive to call me?

Where have I seen this...?
Oh yeah...
Fill out these forms and we send you a check for $20!!!
Stuff like that...

Yes, I agree with you all on the idea they are useless.
When I was working I received 3-4 calls a week, then they called at night about 9 pm.
They were very persistent and did not prove anything to me with their webpage.
Gopherhaul has them beat by 200% and they are only a source of info for me, I did not pay anything.
Servicemagic is also rude.

I use Servicemagic. I get a few leads per year that work out. It is very important to only sign up for the specific services you offer, for leads in specific zip codes. That way you get fewer leads, but have a better chance at good ones. It gives you some credibility with customers, they know you have insurance, and how long you have been with servicemagic. Customers get to read reviews on you. Then customers get to review you after the interaction, so be aware, you will be reviewed.

They are d!cks about giving back credit for fake leads (competitors chcking out servicemagic), or leads from outside your area. They do try to get you to expand your offerings, they can't seem to understand why a lawn guy won't want a lead for driveway paving.

Overall it has worked for me, and it is cheaper than print. I use Adwords, too. Adwords is better, but requires that you have your own website. I spend more on Adwords.
