Looks like it will be Redmax for me

Well, after looking at a number of different options, I went by one of my dealers yesterday to take another look at blowers/trimmers. After talking with him, I found that if I buy a carton of Redmax 2 cycle oil when I buy my equipment, I get a 2 year commercial warranty, rather than 1 year. Given that, and the pricing is almost the same, looks like I'll buy Redmax next week. Gooing to go Redmax on both the blowers/trimmers, as I find them both to be highly recommended here.

Next Friday/Saturday, they are holding and open house; maintenance seminars; etc to kick off spring. I can get 10% off their regular prices.

I'm not going to get the 'biggest' blower they have, but the slightly smaller one. Weighs almost 5 lbs. less, and the cfm at the tube end is only about 30-40 cfm smaller. Five pounds is a lot of difference (almost 25% heavier). Since I'm going to be using it also . . . .

On another note, he made a very interesting point on ZTR's. While standing in the showroom, I pointed to a new ExMark 36" Walk Behind ZTR, and told him I'm probably going to be getting one from them. While I can certainly mow back yards with a 22" Toro trim mower, not the most efficient thing to do. Too many fences in the area with gates that my 48" Viking won't go through. His point was, that here in E. Texas, many people (in my market area) water their lawns regularly. A big ZTR (such as a Lazer), will weigh twice as much as a walk behind. Seems there is a fairly large problem with ruts in late spring/early summer.

Jsut make sure you have solid dealers in your area. not just one.

nothing worse than getting 3 or 4 items from a dealer and then have him go out of business. and not another dealer in the area.

your rut issue, you should know more than a dealer what's going on in your area.
sounds like the ole. " I make more if I sell that one" thing........

Good point on the oil. I'll double check.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah I think the oil thing is a scam from your dealer. My redmax I bought a few weeks ago came with a 2 year commercial warranty in the manual. I didn't buy any oil.

Matter of fact, a few years ago some thing changed in the "rules" and manufacturers are no longer allowed to tell you you have to run "their" oil in order to maintain your warranty (yes some were voiding warrantys because people were using another brand of oil.) Now they can only "reccomend" that you use their oil and leave it at that. More often than not all the 2 cycle oil being sold as X or Y or Z brand all comes out of the same tank anyway. Whatever you use, choose a high quality synthetic oil.

Love my RedMax HH

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that RedMax oil is NOT synthetic...nor is Opti.
That said, I've run Opti and Redmax oils in my 2 RM units 99% of the time - and no issues.

FWIW, I'm going to try Stihl synthetic this year.

If you are buying multiple peices of equipment your dealer should give you a $10.00 case of oil!!! And redmax equipment comes with a 2 year warr.for commercial use, unless you are a rental co and then its 90 days! hes trying to scam you ! I am very happy with my redmax equipment and FYI the 7001 blowers are just fine for normal blowing the 8001 is good for alot of leaves. best of luck

RedMax Straight shaft trimmers:

From RedMax' website: (CLICK the box of the trimmer's you want to compare to view the more pertinent data)
http://www.redmax.com/node3936.aspx?nid=81302

If one buys the RM TR2301S then there's only a 1 year commercial warranty.

It's the BCZ series (2401S & 2610S) that have a full 2 year commercial warranty.

Heck, their BT250 only has a 90 day commercial warranty.

Agreed. I looked up on their website also. That will be an interesting conversation next week.
