the cut throats are out this year!!!!
i have a large commercial property i have been doing the mowing and plowing for the past 5 years.new regional manager decided to put it up for bid. i have a 61" ferris i mow with 1 employee that weed eats and runs the blower. labor on this site is about 28 hrs per week. how can the bids be $500 lower/ higher? i can't comprehend how one company can bid $500 less than another. i know there are some shady characters that have no clue what they are doing bidding, as they just started into the lawn care and have no experience at all, but that's ridiculous! what's your guys take on this?

my take - same story, different day on Lawnsite.
Always expect the unexpected.... don't take it to heart....

I agree with Mow Pro... Someone will always be willing to work cheaper than you. Figure out a way to compete on something other than price. I don't understand how this kind of thing is still shocking to people. There are at least 5 new threads each day saying "I just can't believe this happened." Believe it, learn from it and move on. Don't let it sneak up on you again.

Yup, this is nothing new. If you loose the job, keep the lines of communication open. Be ready with a 10% increase when their new LCO fails to show. Some of my most loyal customers became loyal when they left this way and came back.

Youre going to see more and more of this. Times are tough and people flock to easy startup businesses like lawnmowing when they are unemployed.

wow. i didn't realize how things are i gues. i'm from a small town and i only have 1 lartge account and a few small ones. i could see $100 or at the extreme $200 less but $500 less or a job that takes 25-30 hrs? it just seems inconceivable to me. i guess i should start cutting throats too!!? then again.... no thanks i don't wanna get caught up in it then i'll have to be running around like the rest of the cut throats getting more jobs to make up for not making anything on the one i'd have already. i guess that's life in the lawn care business,eh? oh well thanks for the input guys. pete

So you're saying 500 less per week that is 26k yr??? Could be done it's all in the overhead. I bid a school system a few years back 5 schools total. I was the 2nd highest 145k the bid went to 57k. All the others were 95-130k? I consider myself more of a lowballer too. Like I said it's all in the overhead.
