Funny, I was looking around for info on cut stump applications this morning and stumbled across this...

I have no experience with privet so I can't attest to any of it, but maybe can get you started in the right direction anyway.

Another GREAT basal bark product is "Crossbow". I've sprayed it with a surfactant and knocked down locust saplings some 3" thick. It will kill the grass also. Here's how to take care of the Privet: Cut them to the ground, drill a hole in the stump, fill the stump with Crossbow and place a piece of plastic on the stump and put a brick on it.
If your clearing a section, of course you will not have to do the stump and brick. I've taken out things in a yard and never harmed the sod.

Have you looked into Tordon. We have used it the nursery for years. When we dig a tree we spray all the suckers that pop up later with Tordon. We also use it on the fence line after removing large trees.

I have used Crossbow for some time and found it to be cheaper and more effective than some of the other chemicals. I small alot of roads and fence rows with it. Cost 60.00 per gal. 2oz per gal of water for most brushy items. Stump treatment you need to read instructions.

Garlon 4 applied as a cut stump treatment or basal bark spray. Crossbow is a premix of Garlon and 2,4-D ester. I do not know of many trees or vines that resist treatment with that. Most weed trees and vines are killed if basal sprayed with 5 oz Crossbow in 1 gallon diesel. No cutting or drilling required unless the tree is over 6 inch caliper.
