Locating equipment?

Does anyone use locating equipment? Diggers will only locate the main stuff but for other things like wires to a garage/barn, dog fence, or sprinkler systems?

I always tell customers that I am not responsible for unmarked lines. It's spelled out in the contract they sign. I call the locate in and the rest is up to the customer let me know where it is

The good ones are expensive.New 2 to 5 k.You can find good used ones for about 1000 to 1500 dollars.
If you do not do much deeper digging you can get by without one.The best thing about having one is you are no longer at the mercy of the locators.

My Dad and Brother are talking about starting to do irrigation and there is so much stuff that doesn't get located, they wanted to avoid hitting stuff if possible. I don't know much they are willing to spend. If they could find one used that would be best. Do they need to be re-calibrated every so often?
