Water Tankers?
The local Fire Department is updating and getting rid of a water tanker, with the hydroseeder now being able to carry more water is big. Not sure I really want another old truck but do like the idea of 2200 gallons in one shot. Has anyone ever priced water tankers out? They are crazy expensive. I did like the one tanker I found, it was an old front discharge redi mix truck with an 6000 gallon water tank on it. I think my slide in tank for a big dump would be better or having a hook. Here's pictures of the old girl. What do you think it's worth? It has a 427 gas with a 5 and a 2.

Wow, thats in great shape. Put front, back and side sprays on it and your set. I have been seeing water trucks get cheaper with everything else. For the last several years they were 28-35 for a single axle 2200 gal. I have been seeing them now in the high teens low twenties. I have been told that the hyd. spray heads are expensive. I'll bet you could upfit that truck for a couple K with the sprays and everything else you would need. I would not get too excited about the power train in a water truck. If I were paying going rate that would be one thing but I'll bet that truck could be had for a steal. Probably has less than 20K on the odometer.

I forget the mileage but it is crazy low. Dad is all excited about it but I am not so much unless real cheap. The 426-4v on the grill sobers you up quick. I couldn't believe how spendy the water trucks are, I think they get more for them than a dump. I would love that one Pete with the hook but don't think he wants to hold on to it till I have the cash.

That truck would make a decent water truck. What is the gvws? My family was in the water truck business in southern Calif, but its been about 20 yrs now and I don't know if the technology has advanced or not.
We never had a stainless steel tank. Like mentioned it needs front, side, and rear sprays. Plus we always had a gravity dump. That unit would be good for light stuff, dust control, light grading, pipeline, etc.
The 427 will suck fuel. The 5 and 2 is good. Paramount equipment use to build ours. I believe they are in Orange county Calif. If they are still in business..
Good luck...

i just bought a 94 ford l8000 w/ a 2800 gallon stainless tank for $4500.. i got a screaming deal on it, they were asking 11k for it but have a friend who works there and talked to the owners to get it down for me.. that looks like a clean truck though and i know all the fire depts here probably have the best maintained stuff around..
you'll love the water truck when your hydroseeding, thats why i bought mine.. some days weve added another 3 or 4 tanks in production cuz of the truck.. good luck...

Be careful. Those older trucks roll a lot. I read about them rolling over responding on calls all the time.

That old F-700 probably has a 30,000lb gvw.
The first thing you would have to do is buy 6 new 22.5 rims and tires those old bias ply tires on the truck is a death trap waiting to happen. They a 10.00-20 tires very very hard to find especially bias ply. Second they are split rims not many tire shops will touch them. So plan on atleast 4000 dollars worth of new tires and wheels.
Truck is in good shape but you will have to spend quite abit to get it road worthy.

Me personally, I don't think that truck is worth 4000 grand, let alone dropping that much in tires. The truck looked very nice, it just is old.
