All I can say is be original. Don't use a name just to get at the top of the phone list either. I see so many names that are also here in Houston and probably in every other city too. I won't name any names. You know who you are.
Keep us posted on what you come up with.

"Mow 4 Money"
"Will mow for food/beer"

Seriously, how about "Dynamow", "Green Concepts","Crew Cut"
or "The Land Tamers". These are names of some mowing companies here in Australia. Can't see a problem using them in
the US.

"Dynamow" is the name of a mower manufacturer here. Might be legal issues using that name.

If you use your name only use your last name that way they ask for mr. --------. and your staff can answer mr.-------- is in the field can I help you. (in the future if you get that big)
A name that dosen't use your name will come in handy if you decide to sell your company later, new owner won't have to keep saying " Bob's retired i'm Joe the new owner."
But peolpe will still try to act like they know you I get several calls a year for Mr. Green

Well,
personally I have always used my own name for the company....

Ronald G. Raley Services Corp, and I have a slogan with it
"Your Yard Barber!"

No confusion there, and people get to know you!
I used to have another name and I just didn't work as well.

Some other names you could try:

The cutting edge
Custom Cutting concepts
ProMow services
rhizomes r us

some low ball names:

I mow cheap
the lawn man
crapsman for hire
ford pinto mowing services

I agree with that. Unless it's like Anderson Lawn Care or other name that obviously wasn't chosen simply to get listed higher. Names like A1A Lawncare or others like that gives the impression that the sole reason for the name was for yellow pages placement.

If you choose a name like XXXXXX Lawncare and Mulch, you have limited yourself (in the minds of your customers) to just lawncare and mulching. That's fine, as long as that is all you plan to do. But who knows what the future holds.

Some of the best names I have heard of are Agroscaping, Terra Vitae, and Grand Scapes (located in Grand Blanc, MI) and others that have a deeper meaning. To some people, it may not mean much, but many of your highly educated clients will understand it. And which company seems to be owned by a professional, Fairway Vista Lawn Services, or A1 Quality Cuts?

Get out the thesaurus and start thinking.

That's my 2¢
