Don't end up like this guy...the taxman is coming eventually

This story is about a landscaping company that does a lot of work in my area...well used to before I came along. He used to put fliers in my mailbox and they said a few strange things:

- "Pay before this date in cash and save the sales taax"
-Makes check payable to him and not the company
-Put cash prices on his contracts

He's an idiot and now he is really F****** by the IRS. I'm guessing they found out because he owns many nice cars and trucks and doesn't claim enough income to pay for it all.

He may of gotten away with it by saying Sales Tax included and just kept the money. With NY budget problems they are going to be looking at everyone now.

It's still not against the law to collect tax., it's what you do with it after.

These fines are for 2002 - 2004. If the IRS looks deeper into the case, they will see that he was sending out fliers saying no sales tax, or cash payments up untill 2008. I got one for snowplowing last fall.

So stupid...

The story only speaks about the IRS. I don't see anything about NY state. Is there another story that addresses his problems with the state.

Does anybody know how the authorities flushed him out?

I would guess that they got him because the wrong customer got his advertisement that advertises no sales tax and make checks payable to the owner and not the company. Might have been an accountant or IRS employee. Also because his claimed income doesn't match the nice stuff he has...

If the IRS is looking, NY State will be there too with it's fine tooth comb.
