My pond/water garden

I built this pond about 5 years ago for a senior project in high school. I have 2 waterfall in the picture one in the back that empties into a creek which goes into the big pond. The water garden I built around the same time

The pond is amazing! I am putting in my first pond and am trying to decided on what rock to use and how to make the edge of the pond. I like the way yours looks ... Is it flag stone? If so how did you put it down? Mortar it?
