toro/exmark z wont start except by jumping solenoid

Finally got around to fixing up my old toro z master model 74171(20 horse kohler 1999 model) It sat for almost 2 years. I can only get the unit to turn over by jumping the solenoid with no spark or by disconnecting the engine harness right by the engine with spark but no fuel.( no power is then going to the fuel shut off solenoid so it wont fire) So it is pretty obvious it is a safety lockout issue. Ive tested the seat plunger, the parking brake plunger, the ignition itself, and the pto switch. The only 2 things I know of that is left is the motion control plungers which are mounted in the most difficult place to get to on the whole mower, and the control head or module which I don't know how to test. Ive also checked the 2 20 amp fuses under the seat. I'm wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions or recommendations on how to troubleshoot this thing.

Thanks a lot

Bad solonoid? Just cause you can jump across it doesn make it could. Also could have a bad key switch. Not likely the timedelay module, it will normally start with that being bad, it will just die when you release the brake.

I've always figured if the solenoid needs jumping then replace one bad solenoid.

I had the same problem a couple years ago. I jump started mine at the solenoid with a screw driver for a whole mowing season since it wasn't much of a problem to start that way. My problem ended up being a faulty ignition switch plug. Its the plugin on the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the ignition switch. Corrosion had eaten it up internally.

Well did you check all the wireing conections to be sure they are good ? If so, a new soleniod would be my first try, they're cheap enough.
