Estimates

I'm kind of new at this...so here is the question. How many estimates do you give out compaired to how many jobs you get ? I've written about 9 thisn year and have only gotten 2. I am pricing at the low end..so I don't understand why I'm not getting more. I know it's early yet and I can't start sealing until may. I'm wondering if people will call later on my bid when it's warm out. Any ideas ? Thanks Bob

i have been in sealing and asphalt many years and it all way's go's like that, but being the lowest price is not all way's good....i give my estimate's on the condition of the lot, if its a bad lot and not been taken care of then the price will be lower, if its a nice lot and well cared for i know he will pay a little more for quality.....

Unhappy

Thanksfor the reply. I really thought I would be getting a bigger percentage than I have been getting. I hope it picks up more with the weather. If that's normal it looks like I'll be putting in alot of miles, giving out estimates and only getting about 10% of them

I started the season very late in 2008 but I convert 80% of my phone calls to jobs, I just give them a price over the phone and unless the price is off by more than 10 bucks either way I stick to that price.

This year I am only landing 50%, I can't figure it out. Maybe alot more shopping and planning going on.

Wow ! 80% . Do you call them ? I have been advertising and dropping off flyers. How do you know who to call ? How do you estimate over the phone ? I have been going to the house, measuring the driveways and cracks etc. I don't know how I would be able to do sight unseen. Right now I only do driveways, no parking lots yet.

Closing sales and pricing

I have been a very minor player in the sealing market for many years but, I would say that as in any type of sales you don't even want to close all of your sales prospects because if you are then you are pricing way too low. I would be happy to close 40% of my sealing estimates and even happier if I could get that many landscape estimates.
I am curious, what prices are people charging for sealing by hand this year?
