Strip Kit Super Duty

I recommended Hustler to a buddy of mine. He's got a 60" Super Duty with a strip kit on it. The strip kit appears to be the worst design possible as it keeps falling off. He says it has some cam lock like design on the side that is overly complicated, and it's flimsy too. He's wrestled with it several times, each time ending in it falling off while mowing. He commented before he ever used it that he thought it was junk. Last night he backed up right over it. Now he's good and disgusted with the mower and I fear the brand if this continues. Is there a known problem with this strip kit?

Is this a Hustler striping kit? the one made for the FasTrak / SD?
I am not aware of any problems with it, but if it is a Hustler striper I will ask around back in KS to see what they have to say.

Yes. It was a Hustler branded kit. Has a couple of little steel rod arms on either side.

Yes PJ it looks like that one.

Yes he spoke to the dealer. Our dealer said, since my buddy already had an email into Hustler about it, if he didn't get an answer to get back with him on it. The dealer had never seen, installed, or sold one before. He admittedly said he wasn't much help, but would rattle Hustler about it if he had to.

Hustler never responded to any of the emails he sent. He called Hustler three times, left messages without return calls, and eventually got a support guy who was less then interested in his problem. Just kept telling him over and over again that Hustler tests these things out throughly and it's ok. The Hustler guy suggested he couldn't follow the install directions, then said ask your dealer about it, and then finally took his name and number to call him back later, and that's been the end of last week some time.

I'll have to say I'm wishing I'd have pointed him in a different direction about now despite being happy with my machine.

I talked to the engineer that designed this and he says it can be adjusted with the locking collar on the bearings so this will not keep happening.
Have him e-mail me and I can get him the help he needs through his dealer.

He's seen the post. I'll let him know, but he's been talking about it not being designed very well and just returning it to the dealer. Prehaps he can get a credit for something else.

Well he contacted you PJ, and you told him that the Hustler rep would give him a call. However, once again the follow through lacked. I couldn't be more disappointed in Hustler's response to this.

In the mean time, he brought the parts in for everyone here in Engineering to review. We all agree the cam design on the end is overly complicated for intended purpose, and it's a very weak design overall. Hustler should take a hard look at redesigning this thrown together kit or consider taking it off the market I think. General consensus here is it's junk.
