It is in dire need of some welding.LOL
Look where I broke the cutting edge a while back.

Nice! A lot can be said about worn buckets and dirty machines; they're making money.

Probably cheaper to buy a new bucket than trying to patch that one back up.

It has less than 600 hours on it.

It must be a cheap bucket because you shouldn't have that much wear. The heal of the bucket is starting to tear.

Skid steer buckets are made of such thin steel you will have lots of metal fatigue. You can patch up the areas but you will have cracks starting around the patched areas because the patched areas are stronger than the rest of the steel.

Takeuchi really beefs up there buckets.It is not a cheap bucket.
The soil is really tough here combined with many hours of spreading gravel and back dragging this is what you get.
I do dirt 95% of the time with the machine.
I have already added the cutting edge from the last picture and hope to finish with the welding tomorrow.
It will have to work at least a few more months.The excavator needs a few more buckets first.

I can see you do alot of back dragging. Do you do alot of work with processed gravel and sand ?

The reason why I ask is when you work with processed material it is sharper than regular fill dirt.

I would be buying some hard surfacing rod or wire and doing some X and O patterns on the wear areas.

Yes I do work some in Gravel with fines mixed in which we call crush and run.
The front cutting edge being worn is from just digging hard clay.

I will lay the yellow blade in the picture flat on the back of the bucket on the bottom so when I back drag it will be like a wear plate.I will also beef up the cutting edge in the front some as well.
I let the bucket go to long and I should have done more to it when it was new.
Here it is common to wear the back of the bucket out first.

Have seen some guys around here run a BOCE on the heel like that only beveled the other way. They claim it really speeds up back dragging for finishing. Not many tooth buckets used here, so they'll also have a BOCE on the front.

The other side looks similar to the side you can see just it was worn down some which allowed me more area to weld to and to protect the weld against wear.
