one of my favorite tools to use for removals and especially transplanting if the soil will allow is a serrated folding limb saw, once a good hole is dug and you have some room to work you can saw through the soil/roots with out knocking off to much soil from root ball.
it's good to have some one pulling the plant up and side ways at the same time ur cutting around, works great for established ornamental grasses which any one who has dug one knows is a PITA! to get up! |
