Simple but important stuff...
  • Keyword rich text
  • Descriptive & Dynamic Page Titles
  • Good Headings
  • A Well-Coded Site
  • Other sites linking to you

There are a number of other important things, but that is a very abbreviated understanding...

I think this was the best comment.

Nobody here will be able to give you near as much as you will find on sites and forums already geared for your question and stuffed with information.

Sometimes I question that the website category should even be in Lawnsite.

I see the real profit here, to be commentary specific to the designs of green trade websites, like appearance, graphics and layout.

Although some SEO can be explained here, it's really inadequate.

Try looking up Digital Point Forums.

To my own understanding, a 100% error-free W3c standardized code in addition to the links you speak of?
And optimized images, a solid navigation system, free of clutter.

Do that and see what happens, many small sites survive on just that alone.

Hey Travis,
I've been looking at a lot of SEO in the past and there really is a TON of techniques to help your site get a better ranking. Here's some in a nutshell:

1. Go to www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and get make sure your site is indexed, etc. If not, be sure to submit it there.

2. Download CommentKahuna.com (free software) and follow the simple instructions.

3. Make a few YouTube videos and in the video info section be sure to put your website URL (including the http://). Then find videos that are similar to yours and make a video response to their video.

4. Be sure to Digg your website

Those are just the tip of the iceberg... You'lll find lots if you Google SEO.

I own a landscape company and it pops up number one everytime on all the major search engines. I know all the ins and outs of this stuff-to all who are not in my competitive market. Some are pay and some are free.

Start with Google's webmaster guidelines or find any good SEO library / book.
