Scag Belt WB clutch issue

Scag WB (belt) sometimes stalls when clutch engaged. This only happens the first time at start up (if at all). After it stalls I disengage the clutch and pull the cord again. The cord it a little hard to pull after that (compression?) but then pulls easily and starts right up. Maybe I should manually turn the blades before start up? Any insight would be appreciated. It's a great mower and I'm very happy with it overall. Thanks. Phil.

The air gap probably needs to be adjusted. There are three adjustment nuts on the electric PTO blade clutch.

Locate the "windows" in the clutch. There are three of them next to each nut. Each nut has a spring behind the bolt to keep the gap set.

Each nut should be adjusted so there is a gap of 0.015 inches (fifteen thousands) with a feeler gauge. Insert your feeler gauge into the "window" and between the rotor and the armature, then just snug up the nut (tighten or loosen) until you feel some resistance on the feeler gauge.

Easy to do and takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Phil.
