beginner books

For someone knowing nothing about pesticides and wanting to offer atleast fertilization if not pest control next year, what books would you recommend? I need to learn chemicals and what each one does and how to apply each one to what type of grass.

Not LA but may help

Don't know if you have a land-grant university in La or not but you could check out NCSU's website - google Turffiles

It has a ton of info plus a great deal of manuals/fertilization programs. Obviously, LA is a very different zone, but they do cover warm season grass fert programs etc. as those are grown in the eastern part of the state.

I really like the Turfgrass Pest Management Manual - over 100 pages, color pdf. I keep a copy in a notebook for reference.
