wood chip depth
A woman I mow for asked some tree guys to leave her some wood chips to put around her oak tree for mulch/bark. The problem is they left her way to much. The oak is about 3 feet in diameter. She spread the chips 2 to 3 inches deep out from the base 12 to 15 feet but not to the drip line. She has enough chips left to bring the depth up to 8 or 10 inches. Do you guys think this would be a problem for the tree...

10 inches is way too much....I would say 6 inches at the most. It sounds like a matter of using the same amount of chips but bringing them out to the drip line...or beyond.

Those wood chips are going to turn into a weedy nightmare if it hasn't been composted at all.
