Ariens 1742 EZR Spindle Housing Replacement...HELP!!

My spindle housing is cracked and I need some help getting it off. So far I've got the deck removed from the mower, the blade and tray off of the broken housing, and the bolts out of the spindle shaft. I'm not sure how to get the hub retainer off. Does it pry off or do you smack the spindle shaft with a hammer until it passes through it and the housing? From the looks of the diagram on the parts breakdown there is a key woodruff that installs into the hub retainer, then after that is a bearing slinger and then the spindle housing.

beat the crap out of it, chance are you will have to replace the pulley. If you put a puller on it its just going to bend it anyways.

Soak the crap out of it with penetrating oil, Tap the outside edge of the retainer all the way around a couple times. Soak again and tap again, Then drive a small chisel between the slinger and retainer working from one side to the other.....

Is the spindle off of the deck? If so good. Get new spindle, put it on the deck, mow some grass.

If not, cut whatever piece is holding it up from getting off the deck and then proceed back to the beginning of the post.

No the spindle is still on the deck, once the retaining hub comes off the spindle will come off the deck and I will be able to change the housing.

Pugs,

Here's the spindle in question, The shaft has to come out to remove the housing from the deck pan.

nbaker,

Do you have any way to put heat (torch) on this dang retainer ?
