mower problems

i have a MTD Lwn Machine with a 16.5hp B&S. when i bought it the previous owner tore out all the wiring on it and was gong to replace it but never did. i found a way to wire the the mower to get it to start but i need some help figuring out a way to shut it off. it also has 2 wires that come off the bottom of the bowl on the carb and i would like to know what they are for and if i need them to have the mower running. the motor currently will turn over and will sometimes start up but it will shut off after a second. any ideas???

Thanks,
Zach

well i know pullin the plug wire off will shut er down but i dont feel like getting the **** shocked out of me. and i dont have the old wiring harness or anything. i found a way to wire up the starter to start it up but ther are 2 sets of wires that i dont know where they hook up to or what they do. one set has a grey wire and a black wire and it looks like they are coming from the bottom of the bowl on the carb. the other set has a red wire and a black wire that look like there commin from under the flywheel. im not gonna use it for mowing its just gonna be used to get around my yard and to get firewood.

Zack,

Does this unit still have the original ignition switch in it ? If so post the model number from the white tag under the seat.

OOOK,

No model number, We'll have to do this the harder way.....

Look on the back of the ignition switch, There will be letters stamped in the white base. If their not there look stamped on the spade terminal it's self.

I need these letters which will tell me where each wire needs to go.

He is looking for the letters stamped into the bottom of the switch or on the terminals. There will be 1 letter that corresponds to each terminal.

Clean it up real well and look again. Probably stamped into the metal terminals.

Does the switch say Indak on it? If it does, there will be letters.
