Jacobsen IV Mower

Yes -
It is a Jacobsen GreensKing IV gas with Kohler engine.
The dealer I spoke with said that the manuals are not being printed curently by textron - so I have no manual

the manuals should still be in print. I work full time at a golf course and ordered a new book for our GreenskingII which is way older and still got a manual. It should not be that hard to rebuild. What major problems does the mower have. I work on golf course equipment daily so ask me any questions you have and i will try and help. They are good mowers and have always given a great cut. The mower runs fine and I have cleaned it up and repainted it.
The only item I have left is the hydraulic system. It works ok but the fluid is low. I talked to a dealer here in town and they want 75.00 for 5 gallons and that is way to much for fluid. He told me if I don't know what type fluid is in the system -bio or other I have to change all of the fluid. As I understand it the fluid is only ATV 100 power steering fluid - Is this what you use? It has a greens sentry and as far as I can tell this is working correctly. I need to test it full but otherwise I have been able to jumper it and make it work. If it doesn't work it will only be the sensor. Also - how do I adjust the cutting height correctly? Thanks fr your help

we use Havoline 700 grade hydro oil in ours. we get it from NAPA for like 25 to 30 for 5 gallons. i would not use the power steering fluid. it may work but i don't know if it has enough weight to it to sustain the heat a hydro unit uses. to adjust the height is not hard but not easy. The best thing to do is go to your dealer and get a gauge from them. It is just a peice of metal that is perfectly level on top and will have a bolt or other adjustable fixture on top. Take a ruler and adjust the bolt to where the bottem of the head of it is at the height you want. next, got to the mower and place the bottem of the head of the bolt on the bedknife and have one end of the gauge on the back roller and the other on the front. Hold the gauge flush againest the back roller and then adjust the front roller either up or down until the roller will just barley scrape on the gauge if it is turned. do it on both sides of the reel about 1 1/2" in from the edge and your hieght will be set.

Do I use power steering fluid or transmission fliud?
The info I have shows Dextron II what is that?
Also- The setting for the adjustment is confusing can you be more detailed - I am a woman and as such not as understanding about the mechancial stuff? Sorry for being a blond HA.

Use Hydrolualic Transmission fluid. I am working on a mower TM and i will get a couple pictures of what i am talking about to help explain setting thew hieght. That will help more than me tryin to explain it. Check back Sunday night and i should have the pics up.
