I was thinking of doing the same thing buying a used box truck and putting a dovetail on the back with fold down ramps. What do you guys do with the grass you bag up? I was thinking of getting a 16' box and making a plywood box for the front on wheels to roll off and dump anything the guys pic up branches, leaf, and grass we bag quite a bit but I was something easy to drive and manuver as well as something to free up some shop space. I was looking at super lawn trucks but they are so expensive 50k I think I could build a nice setup for around 20k thats a 30k savings

Well we bag everything! So I am in the process of trying to build my own set up like a debris systems truck.

We are looking at a Isuz NQR / GMC W5500:
-176inch wb.

Behind the cab we are building a 4 x 8 x 7 box that dumps to the side. Behind that we want to put a 12 ft long box with a roll up door. Then a bifolding ramp gate that is spring loaded. I don't see the need for the dovetail when you can make the gate longer. That dovetail space is just wasted space. Tell me if I am nuts. By the way I think we will have about 45k in the finnished set up graphics boxes and all that other crap

If I have to run another so called work truck again I am gonna go crazy. We have bought new and used 1 tons and they are nothing but break downs and poor craftsmanship. We spent more on repairs than we did on monthly payments last year and only put 12,000 miles on the truck.

That roll out box is a good idea. I have a dumptruck that gets up the leaves.check out super lawn truck.com. They have a system that fits between the cab and the box on the truck.

We have a big local company that will build a ramp, paint it whatever color you want and install it for $1500. Nobody around does better work.

I've got 2 Isuzus with dovetail and ramps. $1250-$1500. I paid Conyers Welding in Madison ,Ga $1690 and had them extend the ramps to 6 and 1/2 feet. Check out there website. Don't settle for standard ramps.

I agree I have dump trucks for the heavy leaves I can even have a dump go pickup a large amount of clippings at our condos. I may even go with a ford box truck if I can get the one I am looking at for the right price although I would really like an isuzu.
I figure I can buy a decent isuzu
12k for the truck
1250 for the ramp
600 for the racks and misc
1000.00 for misc
$14,850.00

I really think this is a no brainer I really do.

Check out Craigslist-- I purchased my 98 model off of Atl. Craigslist-great deal. My 05 Isuzu came from the Aarons Retail Store--North Fla. Aarons Stores send their Isuzu delivery trucks to Commerce , Ga after 3 to 4 years of use. They take off decals and change all filters, brakes and put new tires on. My Isuzu had 48k miles on it when I purchased and I sold the lift gate on it for $700 on Craigslist

I just don't see why you would pay 45k for a truck I can build almost the same truck for 15 and spend the rest on advertising and another truck. How much did you pay for the 05 from arrons rent?
