I've had my current truck for about 4 years now, its a good truck but I've put some money into it and I need something that would be a better personal truck. So for my budget ($11,000 or under) I figured the duramax LB7 engine would be my best option. I've been looking at trucks and prices, and have found a few trucks that meet my criteria and have roughly 200,000 miles on them. I'm not so worried about the miles, as I only travel 10,000-12,000 miles a year. I also know that this generation dmax has the injector problems and I can probably expect to replace them every 100,000+ miles on average. Otherwise, to my understanding, there are no other major problems with this engine. If anyone has any advise for me on this, feel free to help me out.

Oh, and I am not going to consider dodge or ford, I don't want one. I am set on the duramax right now.

If it has had the injectors replaced they should be good to go, i wouldnt worry to much.

i had a 3500 4x4 lb-7 duramax/allison. it was the nicest truck i have ever owned. i can't say enough positive about it.

Thanks guys, I'm glad to hear good comments about the LB7 dmax. I think I will be happy with this engine, hopefully spend less than I have on my current 6.5 diesel. It seems like I have heard mostly good things about this engine. I'm actually impressed by the fuel economy some are getting with these engines.

If anyone else has any experience with this engine, feel free to chime in.

I have a 2002 & 2004 Chevy k3500. I only have about 70,000 miles on each. The 2002 had injectors replaced at 40,000 under warranty. GM extended the warranty on the injectors for the 2002 (110,000 miles/ 11 years(I think)) They're great trucks.

I bought a 2001 Duramax 10 dump new. It was the 1st Duramax in town. It had several problems. Axle seal leaks (drivers side ...twice) , gas gage, reprogram the transmission a few times. It went to the dealer probably 20 times. I traded it the day before it was 3 years old. It had about 35,000 miles on it. 1st year production of most vehicles: you get to be the test dummy.
