TIER 4, Will it screw all engine manufacturers?

Okay, EPA 3 for small engines is here, and anybody that knows anything about saws will know that the new strato/scavenging saws (Nedly, you had one in the 575XP) are heavier than the older saws that they replace and while they put out more power, the wieght, 1- 1 1/2 pound more at the end of the day make people hate them. I've heard the Mitsubishi/Perkins/Cat 2.2(I think?) blowing up because of TIER 3 regs, Now the question is, what will happen next?

It's going to screw engines big time, all the small engines (like Perkins 2.2) are going to get phased out and replaced with bigger engines just to meet the EPA's "demands".
Buy used and don't buy new.

U should try living in california. They are cracking down over here, luckly i am in the small fleet catagory over here, that is the only thing saveing me. If i was a medium fleet i would have to retrofit all of my equipment to make it california compliant whitch would put me out of business. It is hard over here especially with all of this smog B.S goin on over here. There has been more companys go under over this smog B.S in cal that anything. It is only going to get worse. I do not understand how we can be in the economic satus we are in and the goverment is still trying to put the small business under because it does not have brand new equipment. I am going to get off my soap box now.

Expect to pay much more for your machines in the future. I have heard that the prices on engines to OEMs will go up in the vicinity of 25-30%. You know what that means to the end user....$$$$$$$$$.

Yep. I forsee hell for manufacturers. Eventually the equipment owners, fallers, truckers etc that depend on thier engines DAY AFTER DAY, not like people with daily drivers, have got to start lobbying. But, there is a solution... Plink Al Gore...
