I am thinking of biddng some government housing jobs. I know the guy who is in charge of collecting the bids, and he said it would be pretty good work although it isn't high dollar. he is going to divide the work into smaller parts so that you don't have to be bonded. anyone had any experience with this type of work.
We used to do this work but the problems and headaces were too much. First we would lose plants, we would install them then at night they would disappear. Same for sod installed in th day gone the next morning. Next the certified pay roll any body that works for you must be paid by law the prevaling wage as set by Bacon-Davis Act. Now remember that if you do any other work with these men they must be paid at that wage. Then find out when you get paid most will pay at 60 days but some as long as 120 days.<p>----------<br>paul<br>
We made money out of these jobs but had way too many problems. Parents who wouldn't watch their kids or keep them out of the area while we played with backhoe and tandem truck. If you want to be scared, look under your truck just before driving off and see a two year old, still in diapers, crawling underneath. On another job the parents tried to sue us because their kid fell and got a scrape on his face. Wanted $20,000 and offered to settle out of court. We had only signed the contract two days before and had not yet started on the job. These types have all day to cook up schemes to get more free money, and they know every trick in the book. I stay far away from these jobs and concentrate on higher profit jobs.
