I use a Tekonsha P3, works great. works on up to 4 axle trailers, fully proportional.

Do we really think that one is a lot better than another? It's a variable switch, What light switches do you have in your house? Are your light switches better than mine? It's no big deal, get the one that does what you want, at the price you want to pay. That's my opinion.

The 5500. If someone pulls out in front of you, you don't get full brakes on the trailer. Just what its set to.

The P3 (& alot of others). If someone pulls out in front of you it reads the sudded brake and goes full power. Not just what you had it set to.

Go with either the Tekonsha Prodigy or the P3, depending on your budget.

Where is the best place to get the prodigy or P3. Not sure if I will get a trailer with one brake or two. What is your alls opinions on 1 brake vs two on a 14ft tandem.

Depends on how much weight you are hauling. I have a 19 and 24 foot tandem with capacities of 5 and 6 tons plus trailer weight. So i have brakes on both axles.

How are these brakes activated? I've never used a trailer with brakes. Is it just an electric signal sent to them?
