Hourly vs Salary
I was wondering about offering employee a salary vs hourly and how to base a salary. would you take the summer income & add in their unemployment to get a yearly amount? say the employee makes $16,000 for the summer and $3,500 for unemployment. I know he has earned the $16,000 for the summer, but how do I compensate for the $3,500 he would get for unemployment as that isn't billable time.

The guy I work for now pays the yearly guys by the hour during the lawn care months (April 1st-Nov. 1st) and then pays a salary during the winter. Not sure how he figures the salary but I know starting it's around $1400/month before taxes. Just another option to possible consider.

as far as I know you can not pay anyone other than a manager salary. have looked at this and my lawyer said its real sticky. laborers cannot be salaried you have to pay overtime and salary allows you to basically bank overtime pay.
